CAIRO (Sputnik) – The death of all 224 people on board the airline’s Airbus A321 is the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian history. The passenger jet broke apart in midair after taking off from the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh en route to St. Petersburg.
"The investigators will test versions from a terrorist act to a technical glitch," the source told RIA Novosti.
The Investigative Committee team departed to the crash site in central Sinai Peninsula from the Egyptian capital of Cairo by bus late Wednesday.
The Egyptian Aviation Ministry said earlier it had begun extracting and validating data from the aircraft’s flight data recorder, and said extensive work would be required to extract data from the damaged cockpit voice recorder.
